Final Reflection




I greatly enjoyed this course as it has introduced me to many new topics and in a way that was completely accessible for me. I enjoyed reading and discussing 'Why School' and thinking about the evolution and future of education. Reading about the future place of technology within our schools was enlightening and thought-provoking. I loved the challenge put upon us to explore our own ICT skills and pedagogy in moving forward as TLs, and how we will be evolving our careers moving forward. I am grateful for the gentle push to explore and dip my toe deeper into the world of technology and the tools available for me as a teacher. I also enjoyed the conversation around developing world libraries and how grateful I am that we can access so much material. We are so privileged to have the opportunity to explore in public and school libraries as often as we wish.

As Will Richardson states, "whether you’re an educator, parent, community member, businessman, elected official, or something else, if you still believe in schools, you have some work to do right now. We all do. Before we can have a coherent conversation around what happens to schools, we need to get educated. We need to learn about modern, connected learning. And we’ve got to try to get others to do that work with us." This quote is exactly where I am at. I am apprehensive, confused, frustrated, scared and intrigued that the future of education is something that I am a part of. I know many parts of our system currently do not work. My belief that we can transform it, make it better and evolve is what helps me fight through the fear and get to the learning.

 I realize I have continuous learning in the digital realm and must remember to do some deep breathing when I am frustrated with endless passwords, new ways of uploading, downloading and trying to get the result I am aiming for! I need to ask for help when possible and do online research when a fellow human is not available. I am looking forward to practicing these new skills, so they become easier and more enjoyable to work with.


It is an exciting time in the world to be able to collaborate and share on a global scale. I'm grateful for the opportunity to branch out in my skills and have the chance to learn new technologies. What I learn, I can share with my students and colleagues. They will be able to apply the tools in their own ways,  expressing their creative ideas. I know I will be able to assist students to show their own learning, not only with me and each other, but with the greater world at large.

I was drawn in to explore traditional and digital library projects in developing nations.  Because I am  old-school, I was looking at the BOOK BUS, a roving library delivering old-fashioned paper books to people in Zambia, Malawi and Ecuador. This organization has been operating for over ten years and has reached over 100,000 children. Digging deeper into Media Literacy and Coding

I am excited to take my Teacher-Librarianship further down the path of Media Specialist. Next year at my school, I will have increased time with classes to pursue technology in bigger projects and concepts. I want to spur their interests and passions, focusing on inquiry and research. I am in the beginning stages of exploring  Genius Hour . A colleague has taken her class through the first stages of Genius Hour and the results are amazing. The students are so pumped to do research, build their project and share it with others. I am hoping I can implement some of this theory with my classes in the upcoming year. I hope these projects can create lasting knowledge and excitement about learning.
